Mahindra’s 5-door Thar, an upcoming off-road SUV, will be unveiled in 2023. Despite not yet being confirmed, the model is expected to go on sale in 2024. The five-door Jimny and five-door Force Gurkha will be positioned against it. Prices are expected to be around Rs 70,000 – Rs 80,000 higher than its 3-door version, which costs between Rs 13.59 lakh and Rs 16.29 lakh.
The test mule has revealed some details about its design and interior ahead of its official debut. The new 5-door Thar will be a better option for families than its 3-door version. Backseat passengers and boot passengers will have more space. Off-road enthusiasts will be attracted to its rugged looks and 4X4 abilities.
Mahindra Thar 5-door will be 15% longer and have 22% longer wheelbase than its younger sibling. Increasing the width between the wheels will maintain an optimum wheelbase to track ratio for better stability, while reducing the breakover angle. Off-road SUV’s existing model measures 3,985mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,450mm.
Mahindra Thar 5-door will be powered by the same 2.2L mHawk diesel and 2.0L mStallion petrol engines as the 3-door. The carmaker might re-tune the motor to generate more power. Options include 6- and 7-seat configurations. Apart from the extra space in the second row, the interior layout and features will be similar to the 3-door Thar. 5-door Thar will look exactly like its younger sibling, according to spy images. LED taillamps, a tailgate mounted spare wheel, and a high mounted stop lamp are standard.
