Washington: Supporters of outgoing US President Donald Trump hold a demonstration at US Capitol in Washington DC as Congress debates certification of Joe Biden’s electoral victory.
A mob of Pro-Trump supporters entered the Capitol building and engaged with riot police as Congress held a joint session to count the Electoral College votes which would clear the path to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration later this month. One person was shot, according to The Associated Press and NBC News.
The Senate recessed its Electoral College debate after the protesters forced a lockdown and Vice President Mike Pence was evacuated from the building.
The U.S. Capitol is on lockdown after pro-Trump protesters breached the building as Congress began to certify Electoral College votes for Biden.
According to AP, “One person shot at U.S. Capitol amid melee with Trump supporters. The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting were unclear, and the person’s condition is not known.”
