There have been several new product launches across segments by Indian automakers in 2022. We’ve seen three major midsize sedan launches this year, including the Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus, and Honda City EV. Here’s what we know about them.
Skoda Slavia/Volkswagen Virtus
In June 2022, the Volkswagen Virtus will replace the Skoda Slavia. In terms of features, design elements, and powertrains, both sedans share Volkswagen Group’s localized MQB-A0-IN platform. 115bhp, 1.0L, 3-cylinder TSI or 121bhp, 1.5L, naturally aspirated petrol engines are available for the Slavia and Virtus. With manual transmission, the former is claimed to deliver 19.47kmpl, and with automatic transmission, 18.07kmpl. With a 2651mm wheelbase, both models measure 4561mm long, 1752mm wide, and 1507mm high.
Honda City e-HEV
The Honda City hybrid was launched in May 2022 with a 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol motor and two electric motors. With electric assistance, the gasoline engine delivers 109bhp. It has a torque of 253Nm. Hybrid sedans come with a single, fixed-gear ratio and three drive modes. In terms of mileage, it is claimed to return 26.5 kilometers per gallon. Honda City hybrid features ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), 37 Honda Connect with Smartwatch integration and Ok Google and Alexa compatibility, an 8-speaker premium audio system, an updated 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, a 7-inch colour TFT meter with hybrid/sensing graphics, and many other features.
